The Devil Tarot Card Meaning

The Awakened Sage

The Devil is the sixteenth card in the major arcana and represents toxicity, temptation, manipulation, control, obsession and over-indulgence. The Devil is represented by the number fifteen which breaks down to six, so each number will have connections to the meaning of this card. The number fifteen is connected to things like sensuality, harmony, fertility and luxury.

The Devil is connected to the element earth and the zodiac sign Capricorn, as it’s associated with the material realm, ambition, control and power. This card can also represent something that has power over you like addictions, negative habits, limited thinking patterns and obsessions. 

This card is connected to the planet Saturn which represents discipline, authority, structure, karma and karmic lessons. Because of this, the Devil can also be connected to things like karmic contracts and relationships with people who you feel bound to. 

The Devil Meaning

This card can show that something may have power over you in a situation or that you have given your power away to something/someone in a situation. Although, this is just an illusion as nothing can really have power over you unless you let it. The Devil also represents temptation due to its very alluring and charismatic energy.

The image on the card shows a devil who has two people chained to him representing the power and control he has over them. On the card, the chains around the people’s necks are very loose, signifying that they have the ability to break free of the devil at any time. The power is in their hands to choose to break free or to stay in the limited mindset of being stuck.

So the Devil can mean that you have the power within you to break free of any toxic habits, patterns, thoughts, situations and/or addictions. The Devil can also be connected to the Lovers which shows two people being brought together by an angel instead of a devil. These cards are connected as they can represent the dualistic nature of relationships or even the different aspects of yourself.

Therefore, when the Devil comes up in a reading it can represent dependence or that you may be hanging onto something which is not healthy for you. Alternatively, the Devil can also represent things like sexuality, co-dependence, self-limiting beliefs and karmic contracts. The number fourteen is connected to things like independence, leadership, manifestation and enlightenment.

Temperance is connected to the element fire and the zodiac sign Sagittarius, as it’s associated with spiritual growth, a higher level of wisdom and consciousness, open-mindedness and going with the flow. This card can also represent a spiritual path towards enlightenment which is balanced and steady. 

This card is connected to the planet Jupiter which represents growth, expansion, wisdom and luck. Because of this, Temperance can also be connected to things like a process which needs time to develop and that it may be best to trust this process and allow things to come together naturally. 

Temperance Meaning

This card can show that something is in the process of manifesting, alchemizing and coming together and that your patience will be required throughout this. This card can also mean that taking the middle path or utilizing moderation in a situation may give you the best results.

The image on the card shows Archangel Michael who is carefully pouring water between two cups and has one foot on the ground and one foot in the water, symbolizing balance. On the card, there is a path behind the angel which winds up to a mountain with the sun shining over it. 

This symbolizes the journey of life and that pursuing the path which calls to you will bring you towards enlightenment and create a sense of meaning. So Temperance can mean that bringing balance into your life and keeping your big picture vision in mind will help you to achieve your highest potential.

Death is the fourteenth card in the major arcana and represents transformation, transition, death and rebirth, endings, change and letting go. Death is represented by the number thirteen which breaks down to four, so each number will have connections to the meaning of this card. The number thirteen is connected to things like metamorphosis, karma, luck, renewal and the divine feminine as it’s also connected to the lunar cycle.

Death is connected to the element water and the zodiac sign Scorpio, as it’s associated with transformation, intensity, rebirth, power and deep emotions. This card can also represent a big life shift or the end of a life cycle which brings with it an irrevocable change. 

This card is connected to the planet Pluto which represents death and rebirth, power, intensity, control and regeneration. Because of this, Death can also be connected to things like letting go, releasing an old cycle, shedding an old skin and change which is karmic in nature. 

Death Meaning

This card can show that you’re going through a transformation and that it may be time for you to shed an old skin so that you can experience a rebirth in your life. This card can represent the releasing of the old in order to welcome in the new and that when one door closes another one opens.

The image on the card shows a skeleton figure representing death itself come to claim the soul of a life which is ending. On the card, the skeleton figure is carrying a flag with a white flower on it symbolizing purification. There are people standing around death who are pleading to be spared while others seem to be in denial. So Death can mean that you’re closing out a major chapter or phase in your life in order to let something new grow in its place.  

Therefore, when Death comes up in a reading it can represent a big life change, a destined transformation, a big life transition or the final end of a chapter in your life. The Hanged Man is the thirteenth card in the major arcana and represents a metamorphosis, pausing to gain enlightenment, a different perspective and surrender. The Hanged Man is represented by the number twelve as it’s connected to energies of completion, transformation, new beginnings and creation. The number twelve is connected to the divine, spirituality, rebirth and expanding consciousness.

The Hanged Man is connected to the element water and the zodiac sign Pisces, as it’s associated with divine energy and connecting to your inner voice in order to gain enlightenment. This card can also represent a time where you’re taking a pause in order to gain a new perspective, receive divine wisdom and surrender to your life circumstances.

This card is connected to the planet Neptune which represents idealism, spirituality, imagination, fantasy and illusion. Because of this, the Hanged Man can also be connected to things like receiving inspiration, letting go, allowing things to unfold, going with the flow and sacrifice. 

The Hanged Man Meaning

This card can show that you’re going through a transformation and metamorphosis and that during this time it may be best for you to pause in order to allow this change to take place. This card can represent a “pregnant pause” in that it’s only temporary but also necessary in order for something new to be birthed or created. 

The image on the card shows a person hanging upside down with their hands behind their back, their legs crossed and a serene look on their face. On the card, the person has a ray of light emanating from their head suggesting that they’re in the process of receiving enlightenment and divine wisdom/downloads. So the Hanged Man can mean that you’re coming into enlightenment about something in your life and this may also bring with it new perspectives and wisdom.

Leo Zodiac Sign

The Awakened Sage

Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac and represents leadership, courage, bravery, vibrancy, warmth, confidence and creativity. The dates for Leo season begins on July 23rd and lasts until August 22nd.

Leo is represented by the lion, as this animal represents the “king of the jungle” and is connected to the same regalness and royal energy that Leo is associated with. The symbol of the lion also comes from the Greek myth of the Nemean Lion who was slain by Hercules. After this occurred the memory of the lion was honored by Zeus through the creation of the constellation Leo.

Leo is a fixed, fire sign which means that it doesn’t like change and instead prefers to commit, stick things out and follow traditional paths. This sign is ruled by the Sun which is connected to things like vitality, identity, energy, life force and ego. Therefore, Leo is connected to things like high energy, passion, ambition, drive, enthusiasm and being in the spotlight.

Leo Sun

The Sun in Leo can make you someone who’s a confident, natural born leader and people may be attracted to, or drawn to, your warmth and charismatic energy. The opposite sign of Leo is Aquarius which is connected to individualism, innovation, uniqueness, humanitarianism and future-forward thinking.

Leo is more connected to boldness, being the center of attention and theatrics whereas Aquarius is more connected to rebelliousness, independence and humanitarianism. Because of this, Leo can be seen as the more “egoic” sign and Aquarius can be seen as the more “altruistic” sign.

This sign is also connected to all forms of creative self-expression but tends to have a specific talent for drama, acting and music. This sign tends to lead with its heart and values growth, achievement, success and being the best that it can be.

Justice is the twelfth card in the major arcana and represents balance, karmic justice, fairness, law, order and diplomacy. Justice is represented by the number eleven as it’s connected to a higher level of wisdom and order as well as harmony and compassion. The number eleven is a master number connected to inner wisdom, intuitive insight, divine messages and enlightenment.

Justice is connected to the element air and the zodiac sign Libra, as it’s associated with balance, harmony, cooperation and communication. This card can also represent fairness without bias and the karmic law and order of the universe.

This card is connected to the planet Venus which represents beauty, abundance, creativity and love. Because of this, Justice can also be connected to things like a fair outcome, divine support and that justice will be served in a situation.

Justice Meaning

This card can show that things will be dealt with in a fair manner according to the laws of the universe and what needs to be done karmically to balance out the scales. The image on the card shows a woman wearing flowing robes, holding scales and a sword pointing up to the sky. 

On the card, the woman sits in front of a curtain and in between two pillars symbolizing divine wisdom, structure and law. So Justice can mean that the universe is handling a situation and if things have been done in an honorable way then there will be a fair outcome. 

Therefore, when Justice comes up in a reading it can represent cause and effect and that actions have consequences whether good or bad. Although, Justice can also show that a level of compassion will be brought to the situation as well. Alternatively, Justice can also represent accountability, taking responsibility for your actions and acting honorably. The life path number 9 is the old soul and relates to energies of wisdom, spirituality, completion, compassion and surrender. Your mission and purpose in this life is to practice the art of non-attachment, be of service to others and act in selfless ways. One of the lessons that comes with this number is learning how to let go in order to transform and become closer to your higher-self. 

With a 9 life path number you’re learning important lessons around surrender, release, transformation, compassion and servitude. Since 9 is the last of the main life path numbers it also contains all the energy of the other numbers within it. This life path number can make you someone who’s very wise, self-aware, understanding, insightful and generous.

Nine is a number that loves to be of service to others and help people due to it’s compassionate, humanitarian nature. The energy of this number is very strong, stoic, powerful, kind and enlightened. Because of this, people with a nine life path number can be drawn to things like activism, philanthropy, teaching and healing. 

The downsides of this life path number is that it can create energies of emotional sensitivity, being overly idealisitc and having a hard time letting go. To find your life path number you need to add all of the numbers of your birth date together until you break it down to one single number. Unless your number is 11, 22 or 33 as these are master numbers. For example, let’s say that your birthday is 3/25/1975, you would add 3+2+5+1+9+7+5 = 32 and 3+2 = 5, so your life path number would be 5. 

If you get a master number such as 11,22 or 33 then your life path number will embody both the energy of the double digit number and the single digit number. So if your life path number is 11 then the life path number 2 will also apply to your life path. If you get life path number 22 then life path number 4 will also apply to you, so on and so forth. 

Numerology of the Number 9

The number 9 in numerology is connected to the completion of a cycle, divine energy, transition and humanitarianism. The vibration of this number creates a very wise and enlightened energy, as this number has been on a long journey and it’s gained a lot of knowledge along the way. 

The number 9 is associated with awakeing to higher wisdom, divine power and understanding. In the tarot this number is represented by the Hermit which is connected to things like searching for answers, a long journey, solitude and becoming more self-aware. The Wheel of Fortune is represented by the number ten as it’s connected to the completion of a karmic cycle and a rebirth. The number ten is connected to wholeness, unity, independence, leadership and infinite potential.

The Wheel of Fortune is connected to the element fire and all the zodiac signs, as it’s associated with the universe, fate, karma and destiny. This card can also act as a reminder that life is in a constant state of change and sometimes you’re on top of the wheel and sometimes you’re at the bottom.

This card is connected to the planet Jupiter which represents wisdom, abundance, expansion and luck. Because of this, the Wheel of Fortune can also be connected to things like a fortunate turn of events, good fortune and a balancing of the karmic scales.

The Wheel of Fortune Meaning

This card represents that a change of fortune is coming to your life which could be positive or negative depending on the other cards around it. The image on the card shows a wheel with four Hebrew letters as well as the letters TORA which is said to be connected to the word Torah which means “law” or “teachings”. 

On the card, a sphinx sits at the top of the wheel, the God Anubis is on the right side of the wheel and the snake Typhon is on the left. In each corner is a representation of the four fixed zodiac signs Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio. So the Wheel of Fortune can symbolize destiny, fate and the karmic laws of the universe. 

Therefore, when the Wheel of Fortune comes up in a reading it can show that you’re going through a cycle and that wherever you currently are, know that things are about to change. Alternatively, the Wheel of Fortune can also show that the universe is stepping in with a situation in your life in order to balance out the karmic scales and that you will need to go with the flow. The Hermit is represented by the number nine as it’s connected to energies of wisdom, transition, transformation and a higher spiritual force. The number nine is connected to completions and the closing out of one cycle in order to usher in the new.

The Hermit is connected to the element earth and the zodiac sign Virgo, as it’s associated with paying attention to the details and grounding oneself in order to receive enlightenment. This card can also show that a period of solitude may be required, as this will allow you to connect to your own energy and higher-self.

This card is connected to the planet Mercury which represents communication, the exchange of information, analytical thinking, intellect and self-expression. Because of this, the Hermit can also be connected to things like research, problem-solving and searching for answers.

The Hermit Meaning

This card represents a time where you may be seeking wisdom and the best way to do this will be through your own inner guidance and intuitive voice. The image on the card shows an older man wearing a long robe and holding a lantern to light his path. 

On the card, the Hermit is standing on a mountain preparing for the long journey ahead. The lantern only lights up the first few steps of his journey leaving the rest of it in the dark, which will be revealed as he begins to take his first steps. So the Hermit can symbolize a need to be patient with the process and trust your own inner wisdom on the journey ahead. 

Therefore, when the Hermit comes up in a reading it can show that you may need some time alone to yourself in quiet contemplation so as to not be influenced by the world around you. Alternatively, the Hermit can also represent things like withdrawal, going into oneself, isolation, introspection and self-discovery.
