Temperance Tarot Card Meaning

Temperance is the fifteenth card in the major arcana and represents patience, balance, mixing things together, alchemy, moderation and the middle path. Temperance is represented by the number fourteen which breaks down to five, so each number will have connections to the meaning of this card. The number fourteen is connected to things like independence, leadership, manifestation and enlightenment.

Temperance is connected to the element fire and the zodiac sign Sagittarius, as it’s associated with spiritual growth, a higher level of wisdom and consciousness, open-mindedness and going with the flow. This card can also represent a spiritual path towards enlightenment which is balanced and steady. 

This card is connected to the planet Jupiter which represents growth, expansion, wisdom and luck. Because of this, Temperance can also be connected to things like a process which needs time to develop and that it may be best to trust this process and allow things to come together naturally. 

Temperance Meaning

This card can show that something is in the process of manifesting, alchemizing and coming together and that your patience will be required throughout this. This card can also mean that taking the middle path or utilizing moderation in a situation may give you the best results.

The image on the card shows Archangel Michael who is carefully pouring water between two cups and has one foot on the ground and one foot in the water, symbolizing balance. On the card, there is a path behind the angel which winds up to a mountain with the sun shining over it. 

This symbolizes the journey of life and that pursuing the path which calls to you will bring you towards enlightenment and create a sense of meaning. So Temperance can mean that bringing balance into your life and keeping your big picture vision in mind will help you to achieve your highest potential.

Death Tarot Card Meaning

Death is the fourteenth card in the major arcana and represents transformation, transition, death and rebirth, endings, change and letting go. Death is represented by the number thirteen which breaks down to four, so each number will have connections to the meaning of this card. The number thirteen is connected to things like metamorphosis, karma, luck, renewal and the divine feminine as it’s also connected to the lunar cycle.

Death is connected to the element water and the zodiac sign Scorpio, as it’s associated with transformation, intensity, rebirth, power and deep emotions. This card can also represent a big life shift or the end of a life cycle which brings with it an irrevocable change. 

This card is connected to the planet Pluto which represents death and rebirth, power, intensity, control and regeneration. Because of this, Death can also be connected to things like letting go, releasing an old cycle, shedding an old skin and change which is karmic in nature. 

Death Meaning

This card can show that you’re going through a transformation and that it may be time for you to shed an old skin so that you can experience a rebirth in your life. This card can represent the releasing of the old in order to welcome in the new and that when one door closes another one opens.

The image on the card shows a skeleton figure representing death itself come to claim the soul of a life which is ending. On the card, the skeleton figure is carrying a flag with a white flower on it symbolizing purification. There are people standing around death who are pleading to be spared while others seem to be in denial. So Death can mean that you’re closing out a major chapter or phase in your life in order to let something new grow in its place.  

Therefore, when Death comes up in a reading it can represent a big life change, a destined transformation, a big life transition or the final end of a chapter in your life. Justice is the twelfth card in the major arcana and represents balance, karmic justice, fairness, law, order and diplomacy. Justice is represented by the number eleven as it’s connected to a higher level of wisdom and order as well as harmony and compassion. The number eleven is a master number connected to inner wisdom, intuitive insight, divine messages and enlightenment.

Justice is connected to the element air and the zodiac sign Libra, as it’s associated with balance, harmony, cooperation and communication. This card can also represent fairness without bias and the karmic law and order of the universe.

This card is connected to the planet Venus which represents beauty, abundance, creativity and love. Because of this, Justice can also be connected to things like a fair outcome, divine support and that justice will be served in a situation.

Justice Meaning

This card can show that things will be dealt with in a fair manner according to the laws of the universe and what needs to be done karmically to balance out the scales. The image on the card shows a woman wearing flowing robes, holding scales and a sword pointing up to the sky. 

On the card, the woman sits in front of a curtain and in between two pillars symbolizing divine wisdom, structure and law. So Justice can mean that the universe is handling a situation and if things have been done in an honorable way then there will be a fair outcome. 

Therefore, when Justice comes up in a reading it can represent cause and effect and that actions have consequences whether good or bad. Although, Justice can also show that a level of compassion will be brought to the situation as well. Alternatively, Justice can also represent accountability, taking responsibility for your actions and acting honorably. The Wheel of Fortune is the eleventh card in the major arcana and represents a change of fortune, a turn of events, ups and downs and Universal law. The Wheel of Fortune is represented by the number ten as it’s connected to the completion of a karmic cycle and a rebirth. The number ten is connected to wholeness, unity, independence, leadership and infinite potential.

The Wheel of Fortune is connected to the element fire and all the zodiac signs, as it’s associated with the universe, fate, karma and destiny. This card can also act as a reminder that life is in a constant state of change and sometimes you’re on top of the wheel and sometimes you’re at the bottom.

This card is connected to the planet Jupiter which represents wisdom, abundance, expansion and luck. Because of this, the Wheel of Fortune can also be connected to things like a fortunate turn of events, good fortune and a balancing of the karmic scales.

The Wheel of Fortune Meaning

This card represents that a change of fortune is coming to your life which could be positive or negative depending on the other cards around it. The image on the card shows a wheel with four Hebrew letters as well as the letters TORA which is said to be connected to the word Torah which means “law” or “teachings”. 

On the card, a sphinx sits at the top of the wheel, the God Anubis is on the right side of the wheel and the snake Typhon is on the left. In each corner is a representation of the four fixed zodiac signs Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio. So the Wheel of Fortune can symbolize destiny, fate and the karmic laws of the universe. 

Therefore, when the Wheel of Fortune comes up in a reading it can show that you’re going through a cycle and that wherever you currently are, know that things are about to change. Alternatively, the Wheel of Fortune can also show that the universe is stepping in with a situation in your life in order to balance out the karmic scales and that you will need to go with the flow. The Hermit is the tenth card in the major arcana and represents a solitary journey, searching for enlightenment, solitude and inner wisdom. The Hermit is represented by the number nine as it’s connected to energies of wisdom, transition, transformation and a higher spiritual force. The number nine is connected to completions and the closing out of one cycle in order to usher in the new.

The Hermit is connected to the element earth and the zodiac sign Virgo, as it’s associated with paying attention to the details and grounding oneself in order to receive enlightenment. This card can also show that a period of solitude may be required, as this will allow you to connect to your own energy and higher-self.

This card is connected to the planet Mercury which represents communication, the exchange of information, analytical thinking, intellect and self-expression. Because of this, the Hermit can also be connected to things like research, problem-solving and searching for answers.

The Hermit Meaning

This card represents a time where you may be seeking wisdom and the best way to do this will be through your own inner guidance and intuitive voice. The image on the card shows an older man wearing a long robe and holding a lantern to light his path. 

On the card, the Hermit is standing on a mountain preparing for the long journey ahead. The lantern only lights up the first few steps of his journey leaving the rest of it in the dark, which will be revealed as he begins to take his first steps. So the Hermit can symbolize a need to be patient with the process and trust your own inner wisdom on the journey ahead.

The Strength card is the ninth card in the major arcana and represents inner strength, taming the beast, courage and personal power. Strength is represented by the number eight as it’s connected to energies of success, achievement, drive, motivation and leveling up. The number eight represents abundance, ambition, accomplishment and determination.

Strength is connected to the element of fire and the zodiac sign Leo, as it’s associated with courage, resilience, leadership and endurance. This card can also act as a reminder to remain strong on your path, as you have the ability to persevere.

This card is connected to the Sun which represents vitality, energy, identity, ambition and drive. Because of this, Strength can also be connected to things like your personal power and the solar plexus chakra which is the seat of your will and personal power.

Strength Meaning

This card represents a need to get in touch with your inner strength and resilience in order to overcome the challenges life throws at you and to not give up. The image on the card shows a woman, with the infinity symbol above her head, who’s very bravely trying to tame a lion. 

This represents a need to tame your inner beast in order to maintain your power in a situation, so that your passion doesn’t end up controlling you. So the Strength card can symbolize a need to be strong in a situation because it may be something challenging which will require your ability to endure. 

Therefore, when Strength comes up in a reading it can show that you have the strength within to get through this and overcome any obstacles which are blocking your path. Alternatively, Strength can also represent things like pride, aggressive behavior and feeling disconnected from your power. The Chariot is represented by the number seven as it’s connected to energies of seeking, transition, reflection and being in your power. The number seven represents intellectual thinking, spirituality, intuition and seeking knowledge.

The Chariot is connected to the element of water and the zodiac sign Cancer, as it’s associated with the heart and following your inner compass or guiding force in life. This card can also represent that you are in the driver seat of your own life and have the power to make the best choices for yourself and that you’re moving towards success.

This card is connected to the Moon which represents emotions, intuition, cycles and feminine energy. Because of this, the Chariot can also be a message to take your feelings into consideration when it comes to the choices you’re making, as your heart will be communicating what’s truly important to you.

The Chariot Meaning

This card represents that you have made a decision on which choice to make or which path to follow and now you’re taking action to move towards this. The image on the card shows a person standing in a chariot which is led by two sphinxes, one black and one white, both of which are looking in opposite directions.

In the card, the person is depicted as a warrior wearing armor and holding a scepter, as if his word and willpower alone will make the sphinxes drive the chariot. So the Chariot can symbolize your willpower in a situation and that you have the power to take control of your destiny and steer your chariot in a direction that feels meaningful or right to you.

The Lovers is connected to the element of air and the zodiac sign Gemini, as it’s associated with communication, socializing, social connections, duality and opening up. This card can also represent a divine purpose and union, kindred spirit, duality and true will.

This card is connected to the planet Mercury which represents communication, the exchange of information, analytical thinking, intellect and self-expression. Because of this, the Lovers can also be connected to things like open communication, creation, manifestation, unity and messages from the divine.

The Lovers Meaning

This card represents a connection between the heart and mind, the ego and soul and being in alignment with your life choices. The image on the card shows a man and woman who are naked in a garden and are seemingly being brought together by the angel in the sky above them. 

In the card, the woman is standing in front of an apple tree with a snake and the man is standing in front of a flaming tree, symbolizing the Garden of Eden. So the Lovers can symbolize a sacred union or that you are being presented with a choice of the heart and that it may be best to make the choice that’s aligned with your values and morals.

The number five represents change, freedom, challenge and broadening your horizons. 

The Hierophant is connected to the element of earth and the zodiac sign Taurus, as it’s associated with traditional, structured commitments and institutions such as the church, court systems and things of this nature. This card can also represent a holy person, spiritual guide, mentor or guru who is guiding you through the many different twists and turns throughout life. 

This card is also connected to the planet Venus which represents values, love, abundance and creativity. Because of this the Hierophant can also be connected to things like a higher level of commitment when it comes to love, legally binding contracts and taking things to the next level when it comes to your higher-minded endeavors and goals.

The Hierophant Meaning

This card represents a higher spiritual power, authority and philosophy which stems from a long-established traditional system. The image on the card shows a person of spiritual authority sitting on a throne in an elevated position while two disciples kneel in sacred honor and reverence. 

In the card, the Hierophant is dressed in spiritual garb and has their hands up as if imparting wisdom upon those kneeling before them. So the Hierophant can symbolize someone who’s acting as a spiritual mentor, or the wise old sage, who is imparting their spiritual wisdom and philosophy upon you.

The number four represents practicality, efficiency, stamina, order and determination. 

The Emperor is connected to the element of fire and the zodiac sign Aries, as it’s associated with power, leadership, independence, entrepreneurship and self-reliance. This card symbolizes a figure of authority and power who is in charge of an “empire” or who is the decision-maker in a situation and is seeking order.

This card is also connected to the planet Mars which represents passion, action, high energy, independence and drive. Because of this the Emperor can also be connected to things like entrepreneurship, running a business and having the ability to run your life independently without anyone else managing you.

The Emperor Meaning

This card shows your ability to manage your life in a fair and honorable way through good old-fashioned hard work, patience and diligence. The image on the card shows a man sitting on a throne, wearing a crown and holding a scepter, representing his power and dominion over his empire.

On his throne are engraved ram heads connecting him with the zodiac sign Aries which is represented by the ram. In the card, the Emperor exudes power, authority, control and has a commanding presence. So the Emperor can symbolize someone who’s in charge or who’s in control of a situation in your life and who has the final say on any decisions.

Therefore, when the Emperor comes up in a reading it can show that you will need to take control over a situation in an empowered and honorable way, or that you may need to refer to an authority figure.
