Four of Pentacles Tarot Card Meaning

The Four of Pentacles is the fourth card in the pentacles suit in the minor arcana and represents greed, hanging onto something out of fear, materialism, fear of taking financial risks, saving money and control. The Four of Pentacles is represented by the number four which is connected to things like stability, structure, order and hard work.

The Four of Pentacles is connected to the element earth and the planet Saturn, as it’s associated with discipline, commitment, practicality and restriction. This card can represent the miser or an energy of not wanting to spend money out of fear, materialism and/or greed.

The Four of Pentacles represents a situation where you may be hanging onto something too tightly as you may feel like it gives you a sense of security. Although what this is really doing is preventing growth from occurring which can hold you back from developing, leveling up or evolving in some way.

The Four of Pentacles Meaning

This card can be a double-edged sword because it shows an ability to be good with saving money but it can also show greed and a fear of spending money. The Four of Pentacles also represents a fear of letting go and trying to control everything around you.

The image on the card shows a man sitting on a chair possessively holding onto a coin as if he’s afraid of losing it. There are also two coins under his feet and one on top of his head showing how attached he is to his money. He is seated outside of town representing how his intense focus on money has separated him from his relationships with others.

So the Four of Pentacles can represent fear around your sense of security and ability to provide for yourself. This card also signifies holding back when it comes to investing your energy and resources and being greedy with what you contribute. This can apply to many areas of your life such as your finances and spending habits but also your relationships with others.

Therefore, when the Four of Pentacles comes up in a reading it represents a need to utilize your resources wisely but to also have balance so that you don’t go into extremes. Alternatively, the Four of Pentacles can also represent things like a need to be conservative with your spending, letting money control you and a financial loss. Always look to the cards around it for clarification or to get a deeper meaning.
