Saturn in Astrology

The planet Saturn in Astrology represents karma, structure, law, order, restriction, limitation, fear, discipline, responsibility and authority. In the birth chart Saturn represents the area of your life where you’re learning karmic lessons and may experience challenges, delays and setbacks. Although Saturn can bring challenging circumstances, this is meant to help you mature and build structure in an area of your life which will be long-lasting.

Saturn is a planet of responsibility and likes to create order and stability through hard work and effort, as Saturn is all about what’s realistic. In Roman mythology Saturn is known as the God of the harvest, agriculture, wealth and time and was seen as a benevolent deity. In Greek Mythology Saturn is connected to the God Cronus who has a more violent energy as he is best known for eating his children.

Saturn represents the things that take time to build such as a solid foundation which will last for the long-term. This planet rules over the earth realm and therefore values things that are realistic and can actually develop into something tangible or real. Because of this Saturn can tend to slow things down and even bring a somber energy because it deals with the more boring, repetitive aspects of building something.

Challenging aspects made to your Saturn such as a square can show obstacles, restrictions, limitations and tension when it comes to expressing Saturnian qualities. Positive aspects made to Saturn such as a trine can indicate harmonious, strong and supportive expressions of Saturn.

When interpreting Saturn in your own chart it’ll be important to include the aspects made to Saturn because these will greatly influence how your Saturn is expressed. It will also show the unique challenges, opportunities and experiences connected to your expression of Saturn in this life.
