The Lovers is the seventh card in the major arcana and represents a choice of the heart, soul connections, partnerships, alignment and a divinely guided path. The Lovers is represented by the number six as it’s connected to energies of partnerships, harmony, support and love. The number six represents compassion, loyalty, caretaking and emotional support.
The Lovers is connected to the element of air and the zodiac sign Gemini, as it’s associated with communication, socializing, social connections, duality and opening up. This card can also represent a divine purpose and union, kindred spirit, duality and true will.
This card is connected to the planet Mercury which represents communication, the exchange of information, analytical thinking, intellect and self-expression. Because of this, the Lovers can also be connected to things like open communication, creation, manifestation, unity and messages from the divine.
The Lovers Meaning
This card represents a connection between the heart and mind, the ego and soul and being in alignment with your life choices. The image on the card shows a man and woman who are naked in a garden and are seemingly being brought together by the angel in the sky above them.
In the card, the woman is standing in front of an apple tree with a snake and the man is standing in front of a flaming tree, symbolizing the Garden of Eden. So the Lovers can symbolize a sacred union or that you are being presented with a choice of the heart and that it may be best to make the choice that’s aligned with your values and morals.
Therefore, when the Lovers comes up in a reading it can show that you are seeking meaningful connections in your life and that in order to do this it will be best to make your decisions based on your heart. Alternatively, the Lovers can also represent vulnerability, being open and seen, authenticity and staying true to yourself. Always look to the cards around it for clarification or to get a deeper meaning.
